Chris lives and works full-time as a painter in south west london. He was born in the north east of England in 1964 and studied Fine Art at the University of Northumbria. He has been painting seriously for the past 15 years.
In 2003 he won an important art competition, The Dover Prize, which was an open competition involving over 400 professional and amateur painters. This influenced his decision to become a full-time artist.
A common theme in recent paintings reflect his fascination with London, especially the unfolding drama of the city at night. Its multi-cultural and architectural fusions hold endless inspiration for his compositions which he often creates in large scale, with acrylics or oil paint.
His respect towards the discipline of drawing, combined with a rich, vibrant application of paint, creates works that are both strongly evocative and captivating.
The challenge of portraiture is also a subject matter which holds endless fascination, as Chris treats this in the same vein as landscape painting. And one discipline can inform the other, as each contain elements of form, abstraction and sensibility.
Chris has exhibited and sold his work locally and in the city. International and corporate clients have also bought his paintings, including private collectors from the United States, Hong Kong and Europe.
