Since moving to Hastings, over twenty years ago , Jill has used the coastline as inspiration. Light, atmosphere and weather conditions are a starting point for many of the paintings, some of which also contain a spiritual dimension and elements of memory or imagination.
The paintings are richly layered, using oils both in thick impasto and thin transparent glazes. The versatility of oil paint is explored to the full, resulting in strong, textural, atmospheric images.
Jill trained at the Central school of Art (now Central St Martins) and has been working as a professional artist ever since. Jill shows regularly in London and the South East. Recent exhibitions have been shows, both group and solo, at The Rye Art Gallery and "To The Limit" a combined show of " London Group" members and selected artists from "SoCo"(South Coast Artists). Commissions have included work for Eastbourne hospital and Thomas Peacocke school in Rye.
