Andrea is a ceramic artist living and working in East Sussex. After completing an apprenticeship with a local potter she opened her own studio and has been producing quirky animal sculptures ever since. 15 year on she sells her work worldwide and keeps her sculptures fresh and spontaneous by making each one individually. After exhibiting in London for several years she is now a member of The Sussex Guild and annually takes part in two of their largest shows at Michelham Priory and Pashley Manor, both in East Sussex. Her work is also sold in galleries nationwide.
Until recently most of Andrea’s work has been either stoneware, which makes the piece frost proof, or raku fired but her new work, collectively known as ‘Animal Antics’, is earthenware or low fired. Animal Antics are individually sculpted hamsters, moles, mice, meerkats and hares that are dressed in costumes; this could be a film character such as Sherlock Holmes, the football kit of your choice or Admiral Nelson. Great care is taken to get the costumes as accurate as possible, and the piece is decorated with a crackle glaze then enamelled.
