Whilst accepted for the Glasgow School of Art, Jean chose to study dance, gymnastics and physical education instead. However, she continued with her love for painting and was able to study under James Spence Davis DA and, laterally, with her partner Don McNeil DA. They have both encouraged her to develop her own highly original interpretation of floral subject matter, abstract landscapes and subjects that spark of her imagination. She works in oils, water colour, acrylic and mixed media (gold, silver and coloured toffee wrappers). Jean is a member of the Paisley Art Institute and has exhibited throughout the world Japan, America, England and Scotland.
“Although I am surrounded by the subject matter I enjoy painting I still prefer to work in my studio painting an impression of what I have seen. My work is about the quality and texture of natural things around my sea-side home.”
