Brenda Hurley

Brenda trained as a dress designer at the Regional College of Art Bradford, Yorks.  After working in the light clothing industry she started her own company, designing and manufacturing garments for the mail order industry.  She then moved with her family from Yorkshire to Hertfordshire she retrained in fine art at St Albans Art College [Hatfield University]  after she completing the course she exhibited locally.  When her forth child started in education in 1990, she returned to college to top up her skills.
At Amersham Art College, Brenda earned a distinction for the Buckinghamshire Higher Diploma of Art and Design course, since then she has continued to show her works both locally and nationally and is a member of various studios and associations including National Acrylic Painters.
Brenda also runs workshops and demonstrates for Art Clubs and has written and illustrated two children’s books for an insurance company based on stranger danger and home protection.
Her work is in private collections in Arizona, Singapore and Switzerland.  Brenda’s work includes Landscape, still life, figurative and some portraiture.
High key colour and elements of design and texture feature heavily in all her work.  There is strength and a sense of drama through the use of colour; the work goes beyond the representative and towards the abstract.  Brenda’s landscape paintings are not just about the mark on the landscape but also about the history and forgotten footsteps, the marks that are left under the soil.  A forgotten drovers path that shows up through different colours and shape in the grasses. Old tractor tracks, crop circles, man made marks on the land.  Shape, pattern, lost edges and hard edges are tools used through out her work.
