Linda O’ Grady
After graduating from Edinburgh Art School in 1992, Linda joined the mainstream Graphic Design discipline, whilst painting commissioned portraits in her free time. 2002 saw her devote all her time to her painting and the business name Girl on a Mission was born out of her determination to succeed. Linda believes we are on the brink of a rekindling of the popularity of portraiture, finding that her work has a place on any wall in any home or business. Anxious to dispel the myth that having your portrait painted means sitting stock still in a draughty artist's studio for days on end, Linda paints her subjects in an environment of their own choice (where they will feel at home and relaxed) and can complete a single subject portrait in less than two hours. The speed with which Linda works gives her portraits a feeling of energy and looseness. Linda has had a number of single and group exhibitions over the years, as well as having a portrait exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery in London, as part of the BP Portrait Award. She is also often working on personal projects that have seen her paint the portraits of Tony Hart, Johnny Ball, Tommy Sheridan MSP and Jackie McNamara (Celtic FC). As a result of these projects, Linda has recently completed a commission from Tony Hart of his grandson Alistair. The best portraits are undoubtedly painted from life, but Linda will paint from photographs where necessary.
