Jo Brown

After studying music and art at Bretton Hall College, Wakefield in the 1960s, Jo went on to teach and raise a family, before graduating with a degree in Fine Art from Sheffield Hallam University. Born in Kent, she has lived and worked in the South Pennines since the 1980s and has worked from her studio at Dean Clough in Halifax, exhibiting and attracting international interest. She has had exhibitions in the Highlands of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides; the North of England; London; Tunbridge Wells; Marlborough; Uppingham; Orange County, California, USA.  Her work features in a range of collections and galleries, including Bradford, Rotherham, Wakefield and Calderdale Art Galleries; Paintings in Hospitals, London; Carey Jones Architects, Leeds and London; Deutsche Bank, London.

“Taking landscape as my starting point, I am interested in finding ways of using colour and layers to express memory and mood, to transform the experience of “being” into a communicative painting, which can be both vibrant and radiant in colour and also meditative and contemplative.”
